Throughout the week a friend of mine delivered a Birthday box for me on the premise that it remained unopened until my birthday. Because of house renovations it is currently sitting front and centre in our living room. It sat there for less than a day before everyone else in my family had caved into curiosity and opened the box. Which in itself got me thinking about the notion of self control with regard to curiosity. I honestly haven't had the urge to open the box; it could be because I want to keep it a surprise or it could just be me. It did however drive my mum crazy to the point that she made me leave the room so that she could look in the box. Which leads me to the 2009 movie The Box. I haven't seen it but the premise is a couple is delivered a wooden box. Opening it will provide them 1 million dollars but in turn will kill someone they don't know. What would you do in that situation? I said to Mum that I wouldn't (I think that is partially my belief in Karma), she said straight away that she thinks the temptation would be way too much for her.
What would you do in that situation? Don't you find the whole concept of curiosity interesting- particularly with reference to the statement 'what you don't know won't hurt you'.
