OsCars.

I am not a car owner. I did own a car. It was Christmas present, a white Honda Civic. By New Years, it had been t-boned by a truck and written off completely. I think i drove it twice. That said, we soon found a replacement. It is a green Ford Ka and whilst not exactly mine, has always served me well.
It recently got me thinking about the names we give our cars. The Ka's name is FiFi and with good cause. Not only is it tiny and dark green, it's alarm (which seems to be going more often than not) sounds like a frog. Applying my Mum's logic, the French are known for eating frogs legs and FiFi is a stereotypical French name so clearly the car should be named FiFi. It just always stuck since then, much to my brothers dismay. (He finds the car insultingly feminine but would never admit it.) My Best friend drives a white 1990's something or other (can you tell my knowledge of cars!) His name is Wendell, cause whilst he is reliable he is a little bit nerdy, in a cool way of course. My driving instructors car was named Carol as it is a corolla. My Brothers girlfriends sister named hers Oscar, as in OS-CAR cause she thought it hilarious. (Secretly i do too.) It makes me laugh a little how personable cars become/we make them and how much we love them. It's quite odd really cause we don't really name any of our other posessions and if you did start calling your Toaster Pop, roomies would no doubt think your a little looney. If however, you ever feel compelled to do so, i suggest Kelvin (as in Kelvinator) for your fridge, Mike for your microwave and Steve for your stove.
