I was reading the newest issue of Spitpress last night only to discover they had interviewed not only Josh Pyke but Joshua Radin, two of my all time favourite musicians.
I was super excited to learn Joshua Radin has just released a third studio album so I will be picking that up before I go!
I am a little funny when it comes to music. I really need to expand my horizons of this I am sure but I am weird in that I have a few different artists that I listen too at different times.
I have a mixed playlist called 'Good Morning' and one called 'Good Night' but when I am traveling long distances John Mayer is commonly heard. I think it was because in 7th and 8th grade when school excursions weren't frequent everyone was in love with Mayer so I just synonymize the two.
Joshua Radin I discovered a few years ago now (four, maybe five) and instantly fell in love with his music. Reading into it he was only been playing an instrument for 6-7 years and just decided to start writing songs in coffee shops, people watching (something that I do quite commonly). I love his sound, his philosophy and knowing that he picked up music so quickly gives me hope for my future musical endeavours. I listen to his music when I'm studying and/or really really stressed and just need to take a minute to breath. Reading Spitpress's Interview, this excerpt makes me love him just a little bit more:
"Paris is my favourite city. I think I'm just a cafe culture type of person and that's such a cafe culture, like I could sit in a Parisian cafe, people-watch, drink coffee, red wine, read a book and write in my journal. I could do that all day, everyday. Get on my bicycle, so visit museums and come back to the cafe, have some French food, sit there with some cheese, have some baguette. I don't know, that sounds like my ideal day. That's one of those things where as a boy growing up in Cleveland, Ohio, I would say, 'One day I'm going to live in a flat in Paris.' "
Michael Jackson is the third musician I listen too at specific times and it is mainly when I feel like dancing. Dancing to celebrate, to momentarily stop stressing or to just smile. I am pretty sure it is not only cause I love all of his music but because when I was younger the first dance recital I went too I saw an older troop, dressed in gold Lycra dancing to 'The Way You Make Me Feel' (now my all time favourite song) and couldn't help but simultaneously be amazed and want to be them. From there I spent a lot of time with my childhood best friends choreographing dances to Michael Jackson and/or Barry White records and putting on 'JKR Concerts' for their parents.
I was/am such a dork but it is interesting to think how we come to associate different songs or artists with not only different people and periods in our lives but with different actions.
Interesting.
