Arm Bands

Of late I have seen an alarmingly high number of upper arm bands ala Cleopatra. I am all for accessories but I do not understand this one at all (at least not with a planet of the apes tee and cons anyway). Admittedly in my time I have worn an arm band but it was the late 1990's & I was dressed as Scary Spice at the time. I have a feeling this could be the next semi-controversial fad to replace the whole tights are not pants debate. Opinions anyone?
